The Pet Playroom Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, control and management of daycare dogs and ensuring the safety of the playgroup.  The Playroom Caretaker may also be assigned care of other animals lodging, grooming or training at the facility.  Additionally, the Playroom Caretaker is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the playrooms as well as other areas of the facility as assigned.  The Pet Playroom Coordinator  works day to day under the supervision of the Pet Care Shift Lead and reports directly to the Owner(s).

Primary Duties

Enrichment Daycare

  • Our Coaches personally interact with dogs in playgroups using appropriate toys and tools to ensure safe levels of play and minimizing stress levels of all dogs in playgroup. Always maintain visual observation of dogs  and spread attention and play among all dogs in playgroup.
  • Ensure all report cards and social media is done during each playgroup (Facebook live, photos, report cards, etc.)
  • Control level of play by following dog management and control procedures and instructions provided by Pet Care Shift Lead.
  • Use proper dog handling techniques including use of kennel leads to transfer dogs.
  • Use proper dog introduction procedures.
  • Use appropriate praise and dog redirection methods.
  • Ensure you know all dogs in playgroup and can properly identify them. If not, request assistance from Shift Leader.  Use paper id collars to identify dogs that are similar in appearance, intact pet, have medical or are special needs as well as Private Play.
  • Watch all new dogs carefully and immediately consult with Shift Lead if you have concerns. For all dogs in playgroup; report any unusual behavior, or eliminations and injuries to the Shift Lead immediately.
  • Review special needs list and manage dogs as instructed. Complete the maintenance report for all dogs in playgroup.
  • Ensure staff that relieves you for break or shift change know all dogs in group, the special needs dog status and any unusual behaviors or concerns you have been managing during your shift. If the next shift staff is not available, update the Shift Lead before leaving.
  • Thoroughly document in Gingr behavioral, feeding, temperament, summarize the pets day within their account.
  • Keep playrooms, equipment, and toys clean and free of pet waste at all times. Walk entire perimeter of room before leaving to make sure all messes are cleaned up
  • Pickup all toys and place back in their appropriate container prior to leaving room
  • Put dogs into their specific suites for meals in accordance to procedure. Consult Shift Lead if you have concerns on being able to put all dogs away properly in their suites.
  • Review information on whiteboard in kennel room and in playroom before start of shift and comply with instructions. Review dog profile of any dog you do not know prior to starting shift.
  • Ensure the hygiene of pets on a consistent basis – bathe accordingly, trim nails, extract external anal glands, etc.
  • Complete dog incident reports timely when required. If you are not sure whether a report is required check with Shift Lead. Shift Lead will then contact owner
  • Complete maintenance or repair reports as needed. Immediately report any out of stock items to Shift Lead on duty.

Lodging Dog Duties

  • Provide potty breaks and exercise for lodging dogs as assigned. Potty area visits should be a minimum of 10 minutes per dog per session (7 potty area visits per day).  Document on lodging report results of each potty break.
  • Maintain each pet’s room to ensure that the dog has water and the room is clean and dry.
  • Perform lodging dog exercise sessions and give treats as assigned. Be sure to sign off on the exercise & treat schedules and each dog’s lodging report that tasks have been completed.
  • Ensure that potty area and room areas are clean at end of assignment.

Daycare Dog Duties

  • Playgroup are customized according to temperament of pets in attendance for the day.
  • Playgroups are to be a minimum of 20 minutes – maximum 40 minutes
  • Potty breaks – minimum 6 per day
  • Do feedings, medication dispensing, clean toys, freshen up playrooms and suites

Cleaning Duties

  • Complete Cleaning duties as described in Cleaning Duties by room Checklists. Turn in completed checklist at end of shift.  Advise Shift Lead or management of any incomplete duties that will need attention from the overnight staff.
  • Complete cleaning duties as assigned and indicate proper completion by signing the Daily Cleaning Checklist.
  • Maintenance potty areas in accordance to procedures.
  • Report supplies needed to the Shift Lead prior to running completely out of item. Report taking the last item.
  • If you see something that needs cleaning, ask – then clean it.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience, Skills, Certification or Academic Background Required

  • High school graduate or GED preferred
  • 2 years’ experience working in a dog daycare / boarding / grooming /training facility
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Previous work experience demonstrating dependability
  • Previous experience providing animal care (personal or job related)
  • Self-motivated, independent worker
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and learn new things
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills
